Track SMTP Messages Relayed by 3rd Party Application Using  Exchagne 2007 SP2
Hi, I'm running Exchange 2007 SP2 which I have configured to anonymously relay SMTP. I a number of web services which can successfully relay messages externally using our Exchange server. I've recently installed new application which is proving troublesome. It will send messages internally relaying through our Exchange server but external messages are not being delivered. I have configured message tracking (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997984(EXCHG.80).aspx) but as yet haven't been able to identify any activity in the logs which correlates to the messages sent using the new application. Is it possible to track messages relayed via STMP anonymously in Exchange 2007 SP2? And if so what is required? Thanks, Adam

I've seen this behaviour before with applications that send email with a From: address that's not in one of Exchange's authoritative domains. It will accept and deliver mail to internal recipents, but email addressed to external recipients is rejected because it appears to be an attempt to use the server as an open relay, since neither the sender nor the recipient addresses are in the domain list.[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

Do they show up in your smtp protocol logs?[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

Thanks Protocol logging was the piece I was missing. After enabling logging http://exchangepedia.com/2007/05/exchange-server-2007-logging-smtp-protocol-activity.html I found that the message was being rejected as you mentioned previously becuase there "was no such user" After changing it to an actual mail box the message was sent. Thanks again! Adam
